Because Applied Geological Research Center of Karaj is one of the main centers related to Geological Survey of Iran which follows the same purposes, in this direction, scientific – research section has been introduced on this site as one of the most important sectors of this center.

The establishment of geosciences laboratories database has been introduced to offer laboratory concepts of geosciences to all users. Due to the fact that Applied Geological Research center of Geological Survey of Iran is an international laboratory center and has special purposes for offering laboratory information, this database has been established. In this laboratory database, There are more classified information about different laboratory sciences such as geosciences applied laboratories, sample preparation, sampling, uranium, etc. One of the forth – coming projects of this center is to develop laboratory information as a format of laboratory databases.

  • Airborne Geophysics
Geophysics is an applied science which is very helpful for dissolving many problems of earth issues. The basis of application of this science is the difference of physical properties of undersurface materials.
This section introduces different methods of airborne geophysics such as electromagnetic, magnetic, radiometry and gravimetric methods. Using this methods, different geological structures, lithology transformation (rock materials), and undersurface study of areas covered by sediments which can be seen on the surface, etc. are performed.

Oil & Energy
The role of oil & energy as the main natural resources is no secret to any one. Therefore, identification of these resources, energy consumption structure and programming for generation and distribution of energy are of great importance due to the great effects of supply & demands of energy resources on economical equilibriums, growth & development of countries as well as tight relations between oil & energy and all different industrial and economical sections.
To achieve these purposes and identify different potentials of available energies such as fossils (oil, gas, and coal), reproducible energies (sun, wind, geothermal, etc), new energies (nuclear energy) and electric energy (electricity), oil & energy database was established for  promotion of technical science in all different steps from exploration to production and consumption of energy.

Water Resources:
Water resources database is very helpful for recording data obtained by study of water levels, rivers, lakes & underground aquifers. In this case, protection of these resources against pollution & control of excess use of water resources will be possible. For example, this information helps us to predict floods and decrease damages to minimum.
Gathering, updating & offering information on site of this database has an important role for management of water resource of Iran. Geological Survey of Iran as a scientific – research institute makes efforts to perform different related projects of country and make accessible the information of databases such as water resources databases to all users.

1- Data Collection and Study of Momentarily & Long Time Information
Study of search networks, collection of momentarily and long time information, comparison of current measurements, level & quality of rivers, lakes and underground aquifers.
   
2- Crisis & Disasters Management
Some regions of country, because of special climatic conditions, are under influence of floods & the other natural disasters. Therefore, measurement of surface currents is of important factors to predict floods. Note that climatic studies can be very helpful for prevention of these damages.   
  
3- Water Resources Protection
Although development of water purification systems & operations resulted in promotion of water quality in many countries, control of pollutions and protection of water resources is necessary to achieve the above- mentioned purposes. In order to do this, the related information on this issue should be gathered and classified on a database.
