Laboratory Center of Geological Survey of Iran located in Karaj features ICP system which is one of the most unique instrumental techniques offer high precision, accuracy and analysis speed. It has 3 model Varian-735 CP-OES, Auto sampler, Chiller, Nebulizer Ultrasonic.
ICP-OES is a special techniques widely used in today’s analysis. At first, samples are transformed into solution by acidic digestion and basic fusion process and then are analyzed. Of course, it should be noted that solid and gas samples can be analyzed by certain instruments.

Application:
1. Geological- measurement of elements in solid, rock and alluvial samples which are dissolved by fluxes and acids
2. Environmental- measurement of metal elements in aqueous samples, food stuffs, plants, animals, soil and sediments after dissolving and pre-concentrating samples.
3. Biological- clinical- measurement of metal elements in clinical samples, bloods and tissues
4. Archeological- measurement of elements in archeological samples
5. Industrial- measurement of metals in industrial residues

Model Varian 735-ES ICP-OES is widely used in this laboratory has different advantages offering simultaneous multi-elemental readout which result in enhancement of analysis speed of samples. Currently, this laboratory center is able to analyze different metal elements in geological samples and in future, intends to analyze various metal elements in all matrixes such as alloys, food stuffs, agricultural, archeological and aqueous samples, etc.

ICP-OES offers different advantages including analysis of more than 40 elements in aqueous, soil and plant samples with high ppm- precision.
Main purposes of this laboratory includes simultaneous analysis of Trace and Major elements, analysis of more than 300 samples per day and analysis of 70000 sample per year with high precision and accuracy as well as establishment of a reference laboratory in Iran and across Middle East.
One of the forth-coming purposes of this laboratory is to increase the proficiency of analysis performed in a year, establish a reference laboratory in the world, and cooperate with research-scientific centers in Iran and all over the world in the field of research projects.
