Models Varian AA240 and AA240FS Atomic Absorption Spectrometers used in this laboratory are one of most unique instrumental techniques has advantages offering high precision, accuracy and speed through the world.  Model AA240FS Atomic Absorption Spectrometers features graphic furnace systems and hydride gas generator which promote the ability of instrument to analyze metal elements and lower the detection limit. In addition, this model can measure concentration of 4 elements in a sample simultaneously. Currently, this laboratory is able to analyze different metal elements in geological samples and in future, intends to analyze various metal elements in all matrixes such as alloys, food stuffs, agricultural, archeological and aqueous samples, etc.

AAS preparation lab is one of the most important preparation labs of Applied Research Center of Geological Survey of Iran which include 2 experts and 1 technician. Note that samples are prepared under direct control of these experts and technicians. In this step, samples pulverized are introduced into weighting unit and then, into preparation laboratory for acidic digestion and final steps of preparation. Finally, samples prepared are transferred into AAS lab of center for analysis. In this laboratory, different steps of acidic digestion and preparation are performed as follows:
Different Methods of AAS Sample Preparation:
1. Acidic Fusion 1
Weighting 1gr of sample & acidic digestion with HCl, HNO3 and heating on vapor bath
2. Acidic Digestion 2
Weighting 1gr of sample & acidic digestion with HCl, HNO3 and heating with heater
3. 4 Acidic Digestions
Weighting 1gr of sample & acidic digestion with HCl, HNO3, HF, HClO4 in Teflon crucibles
4. Acidic Fusion for Analysis of Ag 1
Weighting 1gr of sample & acidic digestion with HNO3¬, H2SO¬4
5. Acidic Fusion for Analysis of Ag 2
Weighting 0.7gr of sample, acidic digestion with HNO3, HCl and addition of 30% ammonia solution to form AgCl NO3
